Will you invent the next big thing?

I think that most people have ambitions of making it big, becoming a millionaire before 30, 40 or 50 by inventing the next big thing... but how much chance do you actually have in achieving this goal? I personally think the opposite of Moores Law applies to your chances here i.e. the more people that are born the less chance you have of achieving this goal, exponentially. Now when I talk about inventing the next big thing, I'm not talking about inventing something that requires advanced specialist skills or genius status in science, manufacturing or technology, I am talking about innovations that can to achieved by every day you and me...

Lets look at this in more detail and throw a challenge out there... Firstly, there are over 7 billion people in the world today. That is 7 billion minds churning constant thoughts of various quality. Right now these minds are connected through a man made invention "the internet" which has created the biggest hybrid operating entity on our planet - human thoughts and ideas interconnected by a global super network - powerful!

So here is the challenge... think of anything, a product or service that is new. One that you think has not yet been invented, even something a bit crazy that has the possibility of making money. Now take that random idea and do some research - likelihood is it has already been done or if you can't find anything in your initial Google searches, rest assured that someone is currently busy doing it as you read this... remember over 7 billion minds around the world... people thinking up new ideas for personal, school, university and employer assignments all the time 24/7.

My theory is that all inventions that apply to any current (not future) products or use-cases have already been invented or are currently being invented which means there is nothing really left to invent, unless you have very specialist skills for example coming up with a way to reduce the half-life of radio active waste - here the possibilities are infinite.

A little demotivating but please don't let this stop you in following your dreams of inventing the next big thing. Instead be sure to focus on the future and be the first to invent something for a possible future product or service. You need to focus on identifying what the future trends in technology will be and couple this with with a product or service that can be brought to market at the right time, easier said than done?

I may be wrong and there still may be hope for me, I would love to hear your thoughts..
